Why do dogs
need or benefit from massage?
Massage is physical therapy, as well as mind/spiritual therapy.
It helps to rebalance
the body to live and move in harmony and grace. Massage relieves
pain and discomfort naturally by releasing the naturally produced
chemicals (endorphins) in
our pet's and our bodies.
Is massage good
for cats?
For some cats, bodywork is just the thing. For others, it is unthinkable!
If your cat does not mind being touched gently by strangers and
is not so shy s/he feels the
need to hide when visitors come, s/he may benefit from massage.
Which pets can
benefit from pet massage?
- Older
pets with arthritis and other joint conditions
- Dogs, puppies,
cats and kittens recovering from a recent injury
- Pets that
have been injured in the past and continue to limp or move awkwardly
- Older Pets
with poor circulation
- Pets that
have been, or are about to be confined for an extended period
(as
when boarded or shipped)
- Pets distressed
before or after vet visits, baths or grooming
- Show dogs
and cats that need to be relaxed and look their best
- Canine
and feline actors that must remain calm and comfortable throughout
a
day's filming or photo shoot
- Any cat
or dog that cannot get enough gentle, respectful stroking!
How does
massage help an arthritic pet?
Massage increases and maintains flexibility and range of motion,
allowing improved mobility for many dogs. Along with exercise and
good diet, massage can play a significant role in keeping dogs with
joint disease or congenital joint malformation, up and moving and
comfortable.
